JYM were appointed by Royal Mail Group to undertake a significant programme of upgrade works to a mail and parcel sorting facility in the Midlands, acting as Project Manager, Building Surveyor and Principal Designer throughout.

Works were carried out across the site and included:

  • Replacement of the fire alarm system
  • Replacement of the CCTV installation
  • Replacement of dock levellers and traffic doors
  • Installation of new high-speed doors
  • Replacement of personnel doors
  • Installation of bird netting
  • Replacement of the passenger lift
  • Refurbishment of staff shower facilities
  • Replacement of external yard drainage
  • Roof repairs
  • Repairs to operational yard surfaces
  • Replacement of the vehicle weighbridge

A particular challenge was maintaining operations on the site, which runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This required careful management and programming, with works phased to minimise disruption.

All works were delivered on time and within budget.
