JYM were appointed initially to provide design and project management services for the complete roof structure replacement to the Pastoral Care part of the school. The purpose of the project was to remove the risk of premature failure of a lightweight Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) roof structure assessed to be in poor condition.
Working with the wider design team, we formulated a suitable roof design that took into account the health and safety risks associated with this type of work and the significant extent of mechanical services located below the roof.
On commencement of the site works, DfE guidance changed significantly, meaning RAAC within other areas of the school also had to be remediated quickly to avoid school closure. We worked with the school leadership team, design team and appointed principal contractor to facilitate and manage additional urgent remedial works alongside the main project, alleviating downtime for the school and minimising risks to staff and pupil health and safety.
The project was completed successfully during term time with little or no loss to pupil learning time.
